COACH JEN:

THE SECRET MAGIC OF LOVE AND FEAR

When something gets you pumped up, you know you’re alive. Physiologically, the symptoms of anxiety and excitement are exactly the same. Your palms get sweaty. Your heart races. It’s your body’s way of letting you know it’s go-time. The only difference between the two is how you interpret the signs in your mind. That’s important. We don’t fear things we don’t care about. There’s a fine line between the two. It’s like love and hate—you have to have loved something to have the passion to hate it, or else you’re experiencing apathy. Emotions, such as fear, excitement, and love, signal that something is important. I loved the game of football. I feared what would happen if they put me on the field with men. Still, there was no other choice. And sometimes your first instinct—the way you react before you have a chance to think further or take it back—is the right one.
